About
I’m a painter and printmaker currently living in Wichita, Kansas.
Mechanical reproduction and repetition (I find great truth in the dictum, “repetition is the foundation of clarity”), have been both the subject of my work and the means by which I produce it. The supports for the paintings reinforce dual interests in commercial processes and their applications for fine art. Currently, I am painting and printing my large works on PVC board for the same reason sign shops use it; its durability, archival qualities, self-supporting nature and it’s optimal surface for printing.
For many years, synthesized images, often in the form of decorative floral patterns employed as a kind of substitute for nature, have provided both a subject source and a rationale for the exaggerated dimensions of my paintings. I like the references to landscape in the long horizontals and the phenomenological aspect of engaging viewers’ peripheral vision, engulfing them in the ‘reality’ of the painting. I continue to work on that scale and in that format, as well as on smaller, more intimately-sized paintings, pushing the decorative elements of my work into the realm of abstraction.
The roots of these passions for fine and applied arts, can be found in the utopian societies of the 19th and 20th Centuries. The Arts and Crafts Movement and the Bauhaus have been a tremendous influence on me both for their utopian ideals and for their insistence on the fusion of artist and craftsman. It has always been important to me to produce paintings that are both beautiful and well-crafted.

Judy’s been keeping me posted on your art career. I love the work here! The patterns and colors are fabulous-wish I could see them in person. Congratulations on your success. I guess the photo I have of you and me from high school (prom?) will be worth money to the tabloids!

Kevin “Moon” KCAI seems like a lifetime ago. I went to see my mom who lives outside K.C. and we visited Leedy Voulkas art center and saw the small but very good art scene there..so memories flowed and you came to mind and thats how I got here. I live just outside of NYC and thats where I’ve dug in with big studio to produce art that will make the big time. Things have not gone according to plan so I am changing my birthdate to 1979. so much MFA shit in chelsea it’s breathtakingly unbeliveable (and that’s not sour grapes.) I like Yr prints.-do you know Symmetry wks.I show you some work. I’m getting a websit up. You sure give away alot of info about yourself. “I’m a painter.” Hope you’re in good health and enjoying life!! Bill

Just caught up with Ann, so I thought I’d look you up. Great work! Especially Swiss and Filigree and Bones. They made my eyes bleed.

Hello Moon. It’s been a few years since we partied in Miami beach.
I see you were busy honing your vision and your skills. Your art goes inward and not outward.
Remember in the Nelson’s Chinese wing – the fantastic slices of marble and other stones, where the grain portrayed seasonal landscapes? You remind me of that.
I was really impressed with Ann’t work, as well, and happy to see Bill Leech still carrying on.

Kevin–Good to get this. I was going to send you a mail anyway. Just booked a ticket to the village of our people, so will be in the valley of the Mohawk from Sept 25–Oct 6, just in case.
All is well here. Hope the same, Oberdere.

Dear Kevin and Ann,
It looks like a road trip to Wichita should be in order. The art that the two of you are producing is amazing. Like a fine wine, the two of you are only getting better. Still remember, fondly, stopping at your home, in Witchta, and marvelling at the size and scale of your pieces. One of these day’s I will make another stop, not only for the art, but more importantly, the friendship.
Adios for now,
Brian iffert

Kevin -
Judy always keeps me posted and she just sent me the notice of your newest show. I love your mixed media use of aluminum (recycled, I hope:) in the diptych paintings. It’s nice to see that your creativity continues to be always present in your life. Oh, and when Brian stops by, tell him Hi

P.S. Did you find Hawaii inspirational?

Kevin- Congrats on the show.
Wonderful to see your art work again! Visited every piece – they are fantastic. Checked out Ann’s work also. Beautiful!
We miss you both so much! A trip to Wichita is very near. Our son Brian got married last weekend. Last one left is John and he may be crazy enough to drive his crazy old parents around the country!
Wishes for good health and success. Love, Marie & Pat

I saw your show tonight at the Fisch Haus in Wichita. I am not an artist, nor do I claim to have an artist’s eye. But I have to tell you that I loved your work. The pieces weren’t named but there was one piece in particular that literally took my breath away. It was numbered 20, a horizontal piece with orange, red, green borders and a black with pink/purple center. Its not on your site. I hope you know which piece Im talking about. It genuinely put tears in my eyes. I don’t know why that piece touched me the way it did, but…well I just can’t say enough about it. I hope that piece lands somewhere where many, many people can enjoy it the way I did. Thank you again for that work of art. It made my night. Brenda McEntire
